- Live in an area of Edmonton with previous neighbourhood flooding
To be eligible, you must also:
- Not already have a backwater valve in your home
- Not have previously received a subsidy at that address
- Have a separately serviced home (single family dwelling or duplex)
Good news: the pre-approval inspection is currently suspended
EPCOR has temporarily suspended the requirement to complete a pre-approval inspection before installation. All other eligibility requirements still apply. This makes the process considerably faster than it used to be — but it’s a temporary change, so check EPCOR’s current terms before you begin.
How the process works
1. Have the valve professionally installed. Only certain valve models qualify for the subsidy, and the work must be done by a professional plumber with the proper City of Edmonton permit and inspection.
2. Submit your application to EPCOR. You’ll need a copy of the City of Edmonton acceptable green sticker with the permit number, a paid invoice showing the valve model installed and the contractor’s City of Edmonton Business License or GST number, and the completed subsidy application form.
The subsidy is paid by cheque directly to the homeowner. Funding is limited and applications are handled first-come, first-served, so there’s no guarantee — applying sooner is better.
